Planning one day trip is not an easy task when you have mange for a Large group of people or let it be a small group or be Family outing it’s not easy to plan a trip that suites for all members of your group.

Let me easy up your search and bring you top 10 Places that you can visit in Pune during Monsoon. I have tried to collect possibly a list with a mix of destination which are less adventurous to extreme adventurous places. Which you can enjoy with your Friends, Colleague and Family.

10. MATHERAN

Distance: Pune to Matheran distance is just about 80 Km

Best Time to Start Journey: Leave Early Morning around 5 am to 6 am to explore the most if you are planning a trip for 1 day. See details below in how to reach section.

About Matheran: Matheran is famous for its viewpoints of the Great Sahyadri mountain range. As you enter Matheran you will start feeling the beauty of Nature.

Out of the vast area that Matheran covers you can visit these famous Views where you can get amazing Selfies and Group photos with splendid views of Mountains, Sunrise, and Sunset.

But don’t worry there not much trekking required. Ha a bit of walking is required though.

Hotels or Restaurant Availability:  You will get many Restaurants and Dhaba’s all along the way for Snacks, Lunch and Dinner with Low to Medium Price range. There are Few Hotels that can provide a Stay. Best Option will be carry food and Lots of Drinking water as you will have to walk a lot.

How To Reach: Important thing to note is Vehicles are not permitted in Matheran.

By Personal Vehicles: Dasturi Naka is the last entry point for any vehicles once you reach there you will have to pay a fees of ₹ 50 /- per person and from there you will have to walk (5 min) towards Aman Lodge Station and take a Train to Matheran this train will take you to Matheran in just 15-20 mins. From here you have to explore by Foot or by horse.

By Train: You will have to Reach Neral station by Train and from Neral take a taxi that will take you to Dasturi Naka in 20-25 mins. The rest of journey will be same as mentioned above from Dasturi Naka.

9. BANESHWAR

Distance: Pune to Baneshwar distance is just about 40 Km

Best Time to Start Journey: Leave Early Morning around 7 am so that you can return home by evening

About Baneshwar: Baneshwar is famous for its Ancient Temple of Lord Shiva in the village of Nasarapur and waterfall created by the river behind the temple. Baneshwar is a one day weekend getaway with for Romantic Couples time and spend a picnic with Family aside the beautiful waterfall and river view. It’s pleasant and calm surrounding of forest area and wild life sanctuary makes it a better place relief anxiety. The Forest and the riverside makes it good place of photoshoots.

Don’t Miss out to see these:

  • Lord Shiva Temple
  • Tortoise Pond inside Temple
  • River view behind Temple and Waterfall.
  • More over if you have time left you can visit very Famous Prati Balaji Temple (Shree Venkateshwara Balaji Temple) which is just 12 Km away from Baneshwar.

How To Reach: Important thing to note is it’s better to go by hiring a cab or your own transport

By Personal Vehicles: Drive towards Katraj Ghat and then cross Katraj Ghat drive straight till Nasarapur Village and then towered Baneshwar Temple. Ample parking space available near temple.

Word of Caution: don’t try to enter river or waterfall if the flow of water is high. Take proper precaution when near waterfall. Your Identity Cards are to be displayed at the gate before entering the forest.

8. LAVASA

Distance: Pune to Lavasa City distance is about 64 Km

Best Time to Start Journey: Leave Early Morning around 7 am so that you can return home late in the evening.

About Lavasa City: Lavasa City is famous for its Italian Style build first well Planned City. The Hill Station is a perfect getaway for group of friends and family. A beautiful road trip with abundant beautiful view of nature with thrill. The drive way is so beautiful you’ll wish to drive their daily. Tamghar Dam View on the way is worth seeing. Lavasa City charges an Entry fee of ₹ 200 /- or ₹ 300 /- per person and additional charges for Bike and Car parking.

Food at Lavasa City is costlier than average restaurants. Hotels are available for Stay at Lavasa city.

How To Reach: It’s better to go by hiring a cab or your own transport. Direct Bus or Train is not available. You will enjoy the most if you like touring on Bike

7. KOLAD RIVER RAFTING

Distance: Pune to Kolad distance is about 115 Km

Best Time to Start Journey: Leave Early Morning around 6 am so that you can return home late in the evening.

About Kolad: Kolad is getting its fame as Adventure Sport Destination. The Best time to visit Kolad will be during monsoon between July – October when the Gates of Dam are opened which make the river rafting more thrilling. Other than rafting you can do Waterfall Rappelling, Kayaking and Trekking. All the way around in Kolad you will fell in love with its beautiful lush green mountains of Great Sahyadri and loads of waterfall to see. Also a Best place for capturing beautiful pictures.

Hotels or Restaurant Availability:  You will get many Good Restaurants and Dhaba’s all along the way for Snacks, Lunch and Dinner with Low to Medium Price range. You should must try the Zunka Bhakri provided at the Fort and the Onion Pokoda.

How To Reach: There are not Direct Trains or buses between Pune to Kolad. The better way to go by hiring a cab or your own transport. Alternate option is to reach Lonavala by Train from Pune and hire Local Taxi till Kolad.

Word of caution: River Rafting and Waterfall Rappelling are risky sports and one should use all proper protection gear and avoid over-confidence.

6. SINHAGAD FORT

Distance: Pune to Sinhagad fort distance is approximately 40 Km

Best Time to Start Journey: Leave Early Morning around 7 am to see morning due and for trekking and Leave by 3 pm to view the Sunset. Sunset view is the best.

About Sinhagad Fort: The Hit Movie “Tanhaji The Unsung Warrior” is based on epic battle which was fought on this fort the Sinhagad fort. The Sinhagad fort is a best weekend getaway for a short distance trip with Family and Friends. It’s famous for its Zunka Bhakri (Pithala Bhakri), Kanda Bhaji (Onion Pakoda) and the mouthwatering Spicy Onion provided with these dishes is the best and unique (only if you like spicy food). Its spectacular viewpoint of the Khadakwasla Dam and beautiful greenery panoramic views is worth watching. Bikes and cars can go directly till the top and then you have to walk and explore the entire fort which take around 1-2 hours. The Best part of this fort I like is the easy trekking path, if you are a young group trying to visit the fort then you should do is go trekking. On the Way you will also see the Khadakwasla Dam.

  • Khadakwasla Viewpoint
  • Water Ponds on top

Hotels or Restaurant Availability:  You will get many Good Restaurants all along the way for Snacks, Lunch and Dinner with Low to Medium Price range. I would suggest to try the Zunka Bhakri and Kanda Bhaji at the Fort.

How To Reach: There are few PMT buses that can take you to Sinhagad fort but depending on location you might need to take multiple buses to reach. The preferred option should be hiring a cab or travel by your own transport. An Entry Fees is charged at the entry gate for each person and each vehicle.

5. PURANDAR FORT

Distance: Pune to Purandar fort distance is approximately 40 Km

Best Time to Start Journey: Leave Early Morning around 8 am.

About Purandar Fort: Purandar fort is currently controlled by Army hence you will have to follow a very strict rules while you are on the fort. Purandar is a fort which is mostly covered by dense fog which make the Fort Worth seeing. Sighting is very beautiful. The prime Spot to Visit on this fort is the Lord Shiva temple which at the uppermost point of the fort. You will need to trek to reach the temple which will take 1 hour. During Monsoon it rains continuously most of the time.

Don’t Miss out to see these:

  • Lord Shiva Temple
  • Exploring the Entire Fort.
  • Statue of Murarbaji Deshpande
  • You can also visit the famous Datta Mandir at Narayanpur just 5 Km Ahead.

Hotels or Restaurant Availability:  You will get many Restaurants and Dhaba’s if you go from the Saswad Route for Snacks, Lunch and Dinner with Low Price range. But you Go from Katraj Ghat or Bopdev Ghat there are fewer restaurants.

How To Reach: The Only possible way to reach Purandar Fort is to travel By Hiring cab for both sides or By your personal transport. Display of Identity Card is mandatory for each person at the Military Check post. Parking for bike and Cars is available at fort.

4. LOHAGAD

Distance: Pune to Lohagad distance is around 65 Km

Best Time to Start Journey: Leave Early Morning around 7 am.

About Lohagad: Lohagad is fort famous for its waterfalls and beautiful viewpoints, water ponds and is filled with beautiful green nature all around. Lohagad is such a beautiful place that once you visit there you will never forget about it in your life. The View of Pawana Dam Backwaters is spectacular. You can see the Visapur fort, Tung Fort and Tikona fort from top of Lohagad fort. You can enjoy the Waterfall which are on the way. Although Vehicles are allowed till top of Lohagad you can enjoy your journey by taking the stairway to reach the top it will hardly take 2 hours to reach top by stairways. While coming by stairways you will see 4 Main Dawars of fort and those are Ganesh Darwaja, Narayan Darwaja, Hanuman Darwaja and Maha Darjwaja. Lohagad top view is great for Photoshoots also.

Hotels or Restaurant Availability:  You will get many Restaurants and Dhaba’s all the way till Malavali. You might get Hot Corns and Onion pakoda at some places near Lohagad.

How To Reach: One can board a train early in the morning from Pune to Malavali and then take Jeeps or cabs to Reach Lohagad wadi. Best way to reach Lohagad is by private vehicle or book a private cab.

Word of Caution: Avoid taking risk near waterfalls. Avoid going to edges of fort as winds are very strong at Lohagad and the soil is slippery

3. BHIMASHANKAR

Distance: Pune to Bhimashankar distance is around 120 Km

Best Time to Start Journey: Leave Early Morning around 7 am.

About Bhimashankar: Bhimashankar Temple is one of the 12 holy Jyotirlinga shrines in India. Bhimashankar Temple is an ancient temple build in 18th century. (Mostly renewed from outside). Bhimashankar being a Pilgrimage location is also greatly popular with trekkers. It’s a location with lush green forest and mountain ranges of Sahyadri from all side which makes it covered with lots of waterfall and viewpoints. The Bhima Rivers is said to be originated from Bhimashankar. The Trek path for Bhimashankar is difficult and should be avoided by novice trekkers without proper equipment’s and must have expert guide. There are two major routes for Trek via Shidi ghat and via Ganesh Ghat. While reaching Bhimashankar the roads are patchy with good and rough roads but the views are spectacular which will make you forget the rough road patchs. While reaching Bhimashankar you will see the Chaskaman Dam (via Rajguru Nagar) and the road will be around the dam reservoir which provides a beautiful view. It will be great if you can visit the Dam on the way.

  • Bhimashankar Temple
  • Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary
  • Bhima River Uggam (Origin)
  • Chaskaman Dam
  • Trekking via Shidi Ghat or via Ganesh Ghat.

Hotels or Restaurant Availability:  There are not much restaurants or hotels on the route to Bhimashankar. So Ensure you have food and snacks with you.

How To Reach: There are two routes to Reach from Pune to Bhimashankar one via Manchar and Other via Rajguru Nagar. There are also State transport buses available from Pune to Bhimashankar please do check state bus timetable for more updates. The recommended way to travel is by personal vehicle or by hiring transport services. It takes around 4-5 hours to reach Bhimashankar from Pune.

Word of Caution: The Trek path for Bhimashankar is difficult and should be avoided by novice trekkers without proper equipment’s and must have expert guide.

2. TAMHINI GHAT

Distance: Pune to Tamhini Ghat distance is just about 55 Km

Best Time to Start Journey: Leave Early Morning around 7 am to 8 am to you can explorer, enjoy and return in a day by evening.

About Tamhini Ghat: Tamhini Ghat is a mountain pass of 15 Km which is full of beautiful waterfall alone one side and on the other side is a breathtaking view of Mountain valley you can see some very amazing waterfall view on both sides of the road. You can enjoy and get wet under these waterfall, climb up the water falls (at your own risk) as adventure. On the way you can view the Mulshi dam backwaters have some hot bhuta (sweet corn) to eat and enjoy the spectacular views that will amaze you. It’s a prefect getaway destination during monsoon.

1. DEVKUND WATERFALL

Distance: Pune to Devkund waterfall distance is just somewhere around 100 Km

Best Time to Start Journey: Leave Early Morning around 7 am

About Devkund Waterfall: Devkund Waterfall is a waterfall created by merging of three waterfalls and is said to be the Origin of Kundalika River. A massive amount of water is poured from a height between two mountains believe it or not it’s the best view to see the waterfall. One have to trek for 3 hours from the base village through the dam backwater, dense forest, river crossing, wet and slippery lands to reach the main waterfall location. You will have to take a guide with you to ensure you reach safely from the dense forest. It’s the most thrilling destination I have travelled in Pune. While traveling to devkund water fall you have to go through Tamhini Ghat route which I have listed it on 2nd position in this list. You get to travel top 2 destinations in one single day.
